Beyond traditional South Sea pearls, Cygnet Bay also produces rare Australian South Sea Keshi pearls, prized for their organic shapes and exceptional lustre.

Our pearl farm also cultivates Mabe pearls, sometimes referred to as half or blister pearls, which develop against the inside of the pearl shell to create their characteristic dome shape.

Australian South Sea pearls are cultured by inserting a small piece of mantle tissue from a donor oyster into the mantle tissue of a host oyster. The host oyster is then placed in a farm or lagoon, where it is carefully tended until the pearl has grown to maturity, which can take up to two years. The resulting pearl is then harvested and sorted based on its size, shape, color, and quality. The process of culturing South Sea pearls is more complex and time-consuming than other types of pearls, which contributes to their higher value.

Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm has been run by the Brown family for generations in one of the most remote stretches of the Kimberley coastline, where powerful tides and pristine waterways create ideal growing conditions for Pinctada maxima pearl shell. This biodiverse environment, combined with farming expertise, produces Australian South Sea pearls with a disctint lustre, size and quality that's unique to the region.
