Provenance
The Provenance collection represents the very essence of Pearls of Australia – a journey to the birthplace of two different types of Australian pearls.
From the remote Kimberley coast home to the South Sea pearl, to the waters just north of Sydney where the Akoya pearl is grown, Provenance is a rare offering of two species of Australian pearls set together in one bespoke jewellery design.
Each piece in the Provenance range features a South Sea pearl grown at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm hand-selected, matched and set alongside an Akoya pearl grown at Broken Bay Pearl Farm. With so few pearl farmers still cultivating Australian pearls and only one operating in NSW, Provenance enables the owner to behold something of exceptionally rare origin – a great Australian treasure.

What Makes the Provenance Collection Unique?
The Provenance collection represents the very essence of Pearls of Australia – a journey to the birthplace of two different types of Australian pearls.
From the remote Kimberley coast (WA) home to the South Sea pearl, to the waters just north of Sydney (NSW) where the Akoya pearl is grown, Provenance is a rare offering of two species of Australian pearls set together in one bespoke jewellery design.
Each piece in the Provenance range, whether it's a pair of Provenance pearl earrings, necklace, or a made to order ring, they feature a South Sea pearl grown at Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm (WA) hand-selected, matched and set alongside an Akoya pearl grown at Broken Bay Pearl Farm (NSW). With so few pearl farmers still cultivating Australian pearls and only one operating in NSW, Provenance enables the owner to behold something of exceptionally rare origin – a great Australian treasure.
Provenance is broadly defined as the 'place of origin or earliest known history of something’. Pearls of Australia place a very high value on provenance, being one of the most important invisible virtues of pearl value – a guarantee of where the pearl was grown, the pristine environment in which it was cultivated, and the incredible journey it has taken over many years passing through so many hands from oyster to pearl; ocean to market.
In so many ways, our Provenance collection lies at the heart of who we are, and what we believe in.
How Are South Sea and Akoya Pearls Combined in These Designs?
Pieces in the Provenance collection are meticulously curated. Our Australian South Sea pearls from Cygnet Bay are hand-selected and matched in colour, lustre, shape, and surface quality with our Akoya pearls from Broken Bay, then artfully set into timeless designs. Whether it's rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or strands, each piece echoes the balance of two of Australia's premier pearl-growing regions.
Why the Name "Provenance" Matters
The term "Provenance" here underscores the collections' core values or origin, transparency and sustainability. This matters in the range as provenance for us represents the ability to only sell pearl jewellery that we grow at our very own pearl farms - in Cygnet Bay and Broken Bay, Australia.
What Materials and Design Details Define the Provenance Collection?
The Provenance Collection celebrates the story behind every pearl. Each piece reflects the journey of our Australian-grown pearls, from the pristine waters where they are cultivated to the craftsmanship that transforms them into fine jewellery.
At the heart of every Provenance design are two carefully selected and matched Australian South Sea and Akoya pearls, chosen for their natural colour, lustre, surface quality and unique character that either match or complement one another.
The Provenance Collection features refined, timeless designs to highlight the natural beauty of the pearl itself. Clean lines and understated settings allow the pearl to remain the focal point. The result is jewellery that feels elegant, wearable and timeless.
Each piece is crafted using high-quality precious 9ct solid gold. For more information
What Pearl Types and Shapes are Featured in the Provenance Collection?
The Provenance Collection showcases the diversity of pearls cultivated by Pearls of Australia, both our Australian South Sea and Akoya pearls, highlighting their natural beauty and unique characteristics - especially when worn together.
Round and near-round pearls are often selected for the Provenance designs because of their balanced symmetry and the ability to match both Akoya and South Sea pearls closely in shape. This classic shape allows the pearl to sit naturally in minimalist settings as well.
Because pearls are organic gemstones, subtle variations in shape and surface are part of their character. These qualities ensure every piece in the Provenance Collection is unique, reflecting the individuality of the pearl and its journey, paired with its sister pearl grown on the opposite side of Australia.
